Business Description
|
The name Monistrol comes from a deformation of the Latin word "Monasteriolo", a small monastery. It was built during the Early Middle Ages on the banks of the Anoia river to attend closely to the local people and the vineyards.
In the 16th century, the village was made up of 10 homesteads or families, consisting of some 40 farmers dedicated to cultivating their numerous and rich vineyards. One century later, the nearby village of Sant Sadurní d'Anoia would emerge, and the next century, D. Felipe de Vilan, of Monistrol, would expand the vineyards.
In the 18th century the Marquis of Monistrol increased the vine crop, and one century later, in 1882, he dedicated part of the vintage to the preparation of a sparkling wine, using the "champenoise" traditional method that is still used today in the manufacture of Cavas.
This enterprising spirit has allowed us to offer only the best quality products, Reserve Cavas and Wine of recognised international prestige, prepared according to our historic traditions.
Today, the property of the Marquis of Monistrol, set in the heart of Penedés and with 450 hectares of vineyards, constitutes the biggest vineyard in the district of Sant Sadurní d'Anoia.
